DEBATE CAMP
July 14th – 17th
A Round Table discussion of Responsible Rhetoric:
The art of ethical persuasion
Debate provides varied intellectually challenging opportunities to develop and refine oral and written advocacy skills on real world issues.
At camp, coaches and debaters will engage in an intense dialogue addressing the requirements of responsible rhetoric.
How to advocate a realistic policy position
How to fulfill your “burden of proof”
Is source credibility relative?
Are there really four stock issues?
Raising the bar on negative research and argumentation
Plus more
Camp will provide an opportunity to master the same foundational principles used in the practice of law through intensive hands-on study and practice. Understanding their own responsibilities in case writing and argumentation will also help debaters recognize the weaknesses in the arguments of others.
Once again debaters will write their own cases for critique and to use for camp debates.
- Debaters will be required to write an affirmative and a negative brief with a partner before camp.
- Interactive critique will be offered throughout the writing process.
- More debate opportunities will be provided this year with interactive coaching.
- Sessions will be set aside specifically for the purpose of answering and/or working through any and all questions the debaters will be encouraged to bring to camp.
A yahoo group will be provided for pre-camp coaching, discussion, and a chance to get to know each other before camp.
Working together to help you become
